Dr G Gualdi (Modena) won the “Poster Award” at the EADV
An impressive clinical case presented at the 16th Congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology held in Vienna, May 2007, won the “Poster Award”. The poster “electrochemotherapy in the treatment of a metastatic basal cell carcinoma” described a rare and aggressive case of metastatic basal cell carcinoma (BCC) treated with electrochemotherapy (ECT).
Doctor G Gualdi (Department of Dermatology, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy Director Prof A Giannetti) together with his colleagues dr F Fantini and dr A Cimitan has presented a clinical case of a patient affected by an aggressive BCC with no other possibility of cure but ECT. The therapy applied with Cliniporator, even if palliative, led to a significant improvement in the QoL.
The authors stated “this is the first study testing the potential of ECT as adjuvant therapy in metastatic basal cell carcinoma” and concluded “we suggest that ECT could represent an easy, effective palliative treatment whenever surgical therapy is contraindicated, such as in case of high anaesthesiologic risk, or in diffuse cutaneous metastasis”.
